8@8 Preblast: Back by Popular Demand – Dead Ends

We ran this route about six months ago and most of the people that ran it that day probably won’t run it tomorrow. So, this will at least feel new to most of you.

I like it for a lot of reasons:
1.) You don’t really have to think; you just run the down the street until it stops, turn around and repeat on the next closest street.
2.) You can have fun with it – tempo the out, run easy on the backtrack to recover.
3.) I don’t have to create some lame 2-mile loop to cater to those who max-out at 6 miles – you can hop on at Middleton Drive and run the same route as the rest of us 8’ers. Your route starts at the fourth bullet below (note: I still do not support this, you just got lucky this time).

But, after I ran it last time, I also remember not liking it for a couple of reasons:
1.) It’s surprisingly hilly.
2.) It feels like a giant suicide (or shuttle run without the wooden block).

So, it has its pros and cons, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

The Route: Dead-Ends

  • Head down Providence toward uptown, take your first right on Huntley Place; take first right and run down Bolling Road until it dead-ends. Backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Turn around; run back down Huntley Place (staying on Huntley this time) all the way until it dead-ends (optional: Ring-and-Run The Show and/or Bel Air’s house); backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Perrin Place all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence (there’s a theme here, are you getting that?)
  • [Those doing 6 miles start here] Take next right on Middleton Drive all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Cottage Place all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Altondale Ave all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Fenton Place all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Laurel Ave all the way until it (MIXING IT UP HERE) hits Randolph; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Crescent Ave all the way until it dead-ends; backtrack all the way back to Providence
  • Take next right on Circle Ave all the way until … it’s a circle so it doesn’t really dead-end, I guess, but it will hit Providence, so you don’t need to backtrack
  • Once you hit Providence, run it straight back to the lot.

Hugs,

Matlock
