The Thang:

30 MILES with 30 POUNDS for 30 Benjis

2018 marks the 8th year of my participation in the Xtreme Hike, an important event to me because one of my closest childhood friends Chris Raymond has Cystic Fibrosis and is thriving now due to major medicinal advancements discovered using private donations generated through events like the Xtreme Hike.

Through F3, I’ve discovered many things about the amazing capacity of the PAX and the WIDE WORLD of Rucking.  The challenge of hiking 30.1 miles in a day on the Appalachian trail will pair well with a Ruckership/F3 flair.

My goal is to form a team of CrazyMutherRuckers to take on the challenge of a 30mile, 30lb Ruck on the AT, with the ULTIMATE GOAL of raising 30 $100 bills per Rucker for Cystic Fibrosis.

With the support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation aligned with the strength of the PAX this mission is easy to accomplish.

Will you Help?

Oh yeah, there will be patches….and beer

The Charlotte Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is proud to present the 2018 XTREME HIKE to Cure Cystic Fibrosis. In 2009, avid hikers and longtime Foundation supporters, John Barlow and Amos Beason presented themselves with a challenge: hike 30 miles in a single day to give hope to those who may never have the opportunity to experience the thrill of climbing a mountain or the wonders of the outdoors. After a long and grueling day of hiking, they accomplished their goal and their passion has inspired hikers throughout the CF community and beyond to continue hiking until a cure is found. To date, the XTREME HIKE program in Charlotte has raised more than $4 Million for vital CF research, care and education.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and young adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). Patients experience chronic lung infections and other complications often leading to death.

There is no cure.

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to find a cure for cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The Foundation receives no federal funding to accomplish its mission. It is through the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of community-minded organizations that the fight against CF continues its momentum. We accomplish our aggressive goals by maintaining unparalleled efficiency. We take great pride in being one of the most efficient and effective organizations of our kind, and are careful stewards of every dollar raised in support of our mission.

Funds raised through events like XTREME HIKE will be used to fund landmark CF research and give children and young adults with CF the quality of life and future they deserve.

When the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation began in 1955, few children with CF lived to reach elementary school. Today, due to the work of the CF Foundation, patients are living into their 30’s, 40’s and beyond. Considerable progress, however, we continue to lose too many precious lives each and every day. Through events like XTREME HIKE, the Foundation is able to commit vital funds to help develop CF drugs and therapies. For more than two decades, the CF Foundation has been recognized as one of the most efficient and effective organizations of its kind. Virtually every approved CF drug available today was made possible because of the hard work and dedication of CF Foundation volunteers and donors. The research to find a cure is more promising than ever before and we will continue to hike until the day CF stands for “Cure Found”
