We’ve had 130 unique Shelter Guests post at Fortitude over the last year and a half. A number post only once; many post several times before landing a job which prevents them from posting due to having to catch the bus at an ungodly hour to get to work; others post regularly until they find a place to live and move out of the Shelter.
When you think about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it’s amazing that the Guests post at all, while experiencing homelessness. According to Maslow, basic needs (shelter, stability, security) need to be met before a Man can address his psychological needs (belongingness and esteem) and self-fulfillment needs (self-actualization).
Accordingly, Fortitude Pax may need a little more encouragement than the average Pax, not just to attend Fortitude workouts, but also to climb out of homelessness.
We’ve collected contact info for most of the 130 Shelters Guests who have come through Fortitude. We add their email addresses to an email blast that goes out every Monday. But we’d like to add a more personal touch. And that’s where you come in.
We’d like to ask you to reach out to one or two of our Fortitude Pax, see how they’re doing, encourage them to post at Fortitude (or another workout), encourage them in life.
This isn’t an official mentor program with minimum requirements. You can make one call once and never do it again, if you desire.
But if you’d like to give it a shot, please email Pipeline firstname.lastname@example.org or Maradona email@example.com.
