ShoreCard is the toughest workout in Metro.  It’s really not debatable. The Four Horseman Qs will break you down and make you regret your DRP decision until it’s over, then you will smile and thank them for the pure hellish beatdown.

That’s exactly how I felt today. Coming back after a weeklong vacation of surrendering to the Queen and forgetting about the King. I came out hot and rocking the workout like I always try to do.  Lead from the front, stick next to or in front of the Q.  Push myself to pull the herd forward. The workout is pure 3S2T. That’s why I like it.

Well, today I fell short on the 3S2T standard.  After DREDD and Stinger put a beatdown on. Up next was Ice9 and TML.  Halfway there, it’s going great, so I thought.

Ice9 called for us to ruck up, grab your KB and cinderblock.  Carrying a 40# kettlebell and cinder block under ruck around the block isn’t that hard. I do it weekly. Well today, it was impossible. Or at least my mental toughness said it was. My grip strength fell apart. I wanted to fall into the comfort of the beach chair holding a cold beer.  Watching the waves hit the surf.  I wanted the peace and ease of such a comfortable day.

You know where this going, I caved! I gave up! I let the hard and painful get the best of me. I stopped. Let the KB and cinder block hit the ground after only 25 yards. It felt so good, like having the ocean waves wash over my feet while lounging in a chair.  After the first stop, why not stop again?  Then stop again? And again… I stopped more times today to enjoy the beach chair and breeze than I have in the last year posting at ShoreCard.

This was such a great reminder of the importance of DRP. I missed it a few days and not only did my physical toughness languish but my mental toughness weakened.  I let a little water enter my boat, it’s going to be okay I said.  The easy is where I want to be.

The comfort of not tightening up and fixing the leak is a falsehood.  After Ice9 smiled post workout and said that evolution of running with all the gear was about mental toughness. Sure you can run 25 yards and stop to put the weight down. That’s easy. But can you stay mentally tough and keep pushing?

Well I9, I’m going to be back next week to keep carrying that weight and pushing. As DREDD wrote, I’m not going to disappear, I’m staying in the fight.

*BTW, TML did pick up the Q at some point but I was so smoked I don’t really remember it.

Four Horseman, thank you for the hellish beatdown!
