The BackBlast:
Summary: Boot camp with an emphasis on keeping the heartrate up while keeping the running to short distances.
Here’s the thing.
Run to the ALS part of the parking lot and warm up for about 5 minutes with SSHs, IWs, Sharon Towers and some stretching exercises.
10 minutes of Burpees. I have a tabata timer. It will signal the start of a minute every minute. Each minute, you do N Burpees and then rest when you’re done until the start of the next minute. For me, N = 10. So, it’s 100 Burpees in 10 minutes. This is definitely a “you-vs-you” exercise.
Next, to the wall in the Temple for
15 People’s chair air press | 10 BTTW shoulder slaps | 15 Donkey Kix OYO |
15 People’s chair Milkers | 10 BTTW Mountain Climbers | 15 Donkey Kix OYO |
15 People’s chair air punches | 10 BTTW toe taps | 15 Donkey Kix OYO |
Next, to the ‘bottom of the hill’ (Rockbrook driveway to Selwyn Elementary where the gate is on the driveway to the back of the school) where we did a couple of Mary exercises so I could catch my breath and then we divided into 2 groups. Each group did the same circuit, but one group started out on a different ‘leg’ from the other circuit.
The circuit was run to the top of the hill with the ‘circle’ (behind the gym) and do 15 merkins. Run back to the starting point and do 15 squats. Run to the place where the Rockbrook splits into 2 “driveways” to the Selwyn Elementary parking lot and do 15 merkins. Back to the ‘bottom of the hill’ and do 15 squats. Repeat. Plank up when you’re finished.
We did a couple of Mary exercises and then moseyed to the railings where we did the following:
10 Outboards, 10 Derkins, 9 Outboards, 9 Derkins, etc.
Back to the ALS portion of the parking lot for a couple exercises and finished with AYG run back to the start.
My goal was to make Dozer break out in a sweat. I’m not sure I succeeded. And judging by Tryon’s ‘AYG’ effort (he led the pax back to the start), don’t let Charcoal tell you this was a difficult workout.
Announcements:
Tomorrow is the blood drive. One of the Pax reported he had to cancel and so encouraged anyone who hadn’t signed up to do so.
MIP is Saturday at the Charlotte Rescue Mission at 9:00 AM. It is a light 45-minute workout with people recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. It is a win-win. Show up! By the way, I will be the Q and I promise, we will NOT do 10 minutes of Burpees.
Observation:
The philosopher Kant thought there was objective reality, and then there was what humans could perceive about reality. These are not the same. (If you would like to investigate further, look up “noumenon”.) What humans could perceive was a function of our humanness. We are limited by a ‘framework’ that is a part of us and only allows us to understand things in certain ways.
Going one step further, two people cannot see the same thing at the same time. If 2 people are viewing the same object, even from the same distance, they will be seeing it from a different angle. This is because they cannot be in the same place at the same time. They will not see the same thing.
If the object is very irregular, we will likely have very different views of the complete shape of the object when we go to describe it. You will ‘see’ something based on how your mind fills in the rest of what has not been seen. And likewise for the other person. Since we are all different people, we will often ‘see’ something different. What we ‘see’ will be based on our previous experiences and perhaps even our genetic make-up.
When we look back, our memory will likely play tricks on us as well. Our minds will ‘fill-in’ what we remember. What we ‘remember’ is likely to differ from what really happened. This is why ‘eye-witness’ testimony has proven to be so unreliable.
Given all that, it pays to remember what I sometimes forget; the other person might have a perspective worth considering.
