Some pain is good, so good that you seek it out. Sharing in that pain with other men is even better. It builds bonds. This is why the Fitness element of F3 is so important, throw in an element of fellowship like a team based event and BOOM! Guarantee good time.
This event was announced exactly 3 weeks before it started. 3 weeks to rally teams and get physically and mentally prepared after months of social and physical quarantine for many of us. The mid morning Sad Clown runs in between conference calls and home schooling just wasn’t cutting it, we needed an excuse to disrupt that pattern. Metro is probably one of the most competitive regions in the country so no surprise in how many Pax jumped at this opportunity. There really was no excuse. Free, no travel, eat/sleep in your own home, and only took up about 3-4 hours of your entire weekend. You didn’t have to be in prime running shape either, you could have Rucked it if you wanted, and 11 guys did just that lugging some serious weigh around.
Last weekend over 100 guys ran/rucked the first, and now annual, King of the QC Hills CSAUP. Each man individually covered 18.3 miles, the same exact 18.3 miles, of Charlottes most intense inclines. This was a true kick in the nuts for most of us who haven’t been in a normal routine for months due to the pandemic and all the downstream impacts it created. It was a real challenge, and ever guy I saw running had the most painful expression on their face. The Mothership, Bonesaw, and Mchorsey will crush souls. Guys really laid it all out there at every age, pace, and fitness level. Unbelievable!
Checkpoint recruited a stacked team and they did not disappoint. Very impressive performance all weekend, most of the team was in the Top 10 for each leg. Congrats guys. I hear the Dynamite Dags pin up calendar will be ready for preorder soon.
Uncle helped organize multiple teams, many of the guys not knowing each other. Many told me it was a great way to meet other pax that you don’t normally post with, really getting to know others better than a 60 min convergence.
Grizzly and Broken Arrow’s teams get credit for most time on the course… those guys carried 25% of their body weight for 18.3 miles of hills. Just nuts!
Carrier’s team – bringing back the SOFAKING joke…love it. They get credit for highest average age and finished in 4th place (out of 6 running teams)….nice work.
Gitmo’s team – originally a 6-man team which was initially impressive, then reports of injuries, change in heart, and travel plans disrupted it. We don’t even know ultimately who was on the team. I heard they even got a van to ride to the different legs together, cool…i guess. Should have gotten a garbage truck because that team was a dumpster fire. We’ll have to make sure there is someone on that team next year that can tell time and type numbers though.
My team (Tiger Blood)….this whole idea for the KOTQCH originated when my team, previously scheduled to run the canceled GOMR event the same weekend, decided to make up something similar and do it locally. Then I saw Dredd’s Virtual Palmetto race and knew we could do something similar, but better. I’m certainly glad it got bigger than originally planned, the competition really fueled the fire for all.
Things have been restless in the QC lately and I’m thankful for the time spent with all of you this past weekend and more thankful we had a safe and energizing event! We pushed each other to go faster, had lots of laughs, and all said “Who the F*k is Crippler?”
We will definitely do this again next year (with more than 3 weeks notice) and make it even better, more organized, more competitive, and create more fellowship opportunities. Pax are already providing feedback and i’ve got a few ideas simmering as well.
If you were looking for actual race results…I posted them on twitter Sunday @F3_ReddFoxx but here is a link to the Time Tracker to view the final leaderboards and each team’s detailed results.
