The number 19 showed up throughout the workout for a reason. Nineteen men lived among us, visited our cities, boarded airplanes that morning, and carried out an attack that killed thousands of innocent people. Before then, no one had said a thing. Nothing. That same morning, two kids that grew up in our town Jamie Gadiel and Seth MacFarlane both went through what they expected to be an ordinary morning. Both had connections to the small town of Kent, Connecticut. MacFarlane was supposed to be aboard American Airlines Flight 11. He arrived late at Logan Airport and missed the flight. Gadiel made it to work at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Center. He was 23 years old. He never came home. One missed a flight and went on to have an enormously successful career in film and television. The other simply showed up for work and lost his life. Neither knew when he woke up what that morning would bring. That is part of what makes 9/11 worth stopping to remember. Thousands of people woke up, kissed spouses, grabbed coffee, went to work, boarded airplanes, answered phones and started their day. They had plans for that night, that weekend and the rest of their lives. Tom Sawyer got married a week later. So today we ran. We remembered. Not because a workout can adequately honor what happened that morning, but because we are still here to have mornings like this one — together, and aware. Never Forget.
