The BackBlast:
Unbeknowst to me, today is GAAP’s and Torpedo’s birthday. In celebration, and instead of donuts or coffee, we did the following:
- Went to the parking lot in front of the school for SSH, Peter Parker, Knee-ups and a stretching exercise.
- To the upper parking lot for IWs, Merkins, Dollies and a stretching exercise
- The split into the parking lot for Sharon Towers, Crunchy Frogs, Diamonds and a stretching exercise
- To the bottom of the hill to the school for Squats, Dry Docks, Flutters and a stretching exercise
Next, three rounds of: to the top of the hill and 5 Burpees
Next, to the basketball court for 3 rounds of 15 Dips, 15 Derkins, the stairs, 10 Australian Mountain Climbers, the other stairs
Next, to the front side parking lot for 3 rounds of jumping back and forth over the line in cadence to 20. Let’s call it ‘Happy Feet’, with a stretching exercise in between to catch my breath.
To the front on the curb for 5 Mike Tysons (with an obligatory swear word to My Sharona for bringing this exercise to the pax), bear crawl across lane and mosey back. 3 times
To the rails for Incline Merkins and Outboards in cadence.
To the beginning point for flutters and time’s up.
Speaking of birthdays, we will have an announcement soon on our daughter’s first child. She and her husband are very much looking forward to meeting him (they are having a boy) in person. The birth (or for those who adopt, the adoption) of your own children is really a moving experience. We have two. There’s nothing like it. But Grandchildren are close behind. To see your children have children is a very powerful experience. This will be our third grandchild. Our son, who is older, has 2, both boys, 3 and 5 years old. (By the way, congratulations to Hall Pass on the recent birth of his 5th grandchild!)
As a parent, you have to transition just like your children transition to adulthood. From being the parent totally responsible for them to being a parent to your adult children. You want them to have increasing responsibility in life. You go from ‘here’s what you need to do or not do’ to ‘how can I help you’. My ‘golden rule’ was: ‘it’s ok to make mistakes, as long as they are not permanent. Don’t hurt people or yourself (for example, drive carefully). Don’t get arrested! (it’s bad for future job prospects.) etc.)’. Transitions. They seem slow until you look back.
Announcements:
The Holdouts are playing at Mac’s Speed Shop, Thursday starting at 6:00 PM.
Exercise is proven to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s. That’s one more reason to do what we do.
Buzzcock: Sign up to take a meal. If you bring it over, you will get to enjoy his company. He is very entertaining to visit! Worth your time!
Good stuff, Pigskin. that was a solid workout. appreciate the fact you actually wrote a backblast…a dying tradition in F3 Metro & Area51 I’m afraid.
Some sundry observations from this morning’s downpainment:
* Charcoal goes by different names depending on AO & pax present
* My Sharona had a serious “moment” (perhaps some tears shed) after when seeing and hearing Wrap It Up’s Mustang
* GAAP is getting old for sure as he confused me for Señor Chips…
* Hall Pass is a HIM – just have to say that as he spent 7 years investing in my 2.0 (just graduated HS) as part of his church youth group. T-claps and thank you, brother.
* Foo’s got the band back together!
