Bonyard – Lost in the woods
The BackBlast:
Will you Q at the Boneyard? Where is that? Eastway… where? I get it, East Charlotte. What’s over there? The AO. Yeah, it’s a new AO by the SABER House. The SABER house.. what’s that? The SABER House is for MEN and combines nine months of therapy and life-changing skills with the guarantee of free housing, as long as the person stays drug and alcohol-free.
Wow – Ill absolutely Q one morning. Sign me up.
Today was that day. I found the AO at 0520, scouted out some things to do around Eastway Middle. The Evergreen Cemetery and the Evergreen Nature preserve.
This is going to be fun. A lot of options. I can’t wait for the pax show up…0527… Evil Scout arrives. Posts the flag. 0530… dang… just Evil Scout and I. Well… he’s a fit guy. This will be fun. Ok, let’s roll….
Wait… let’s hit a COP as I’m sure more pax will show up. SSH… Merkins… Squats…
Nope.. no one else. Let’s roll. I’ve got an idea. Let’s go run through Nature Preserve. It’s well lit. Wait, nope it’s not. Ok. I have a head lamp. We’re good.
We hit a dark paved trail. This is perfect. Let’s go off road through a trail. Here’s a bench. Let’s stop and do some dips, derkin’s…
I hear something. Someone is running though the woods… at 0530. Who is that? Evil Scout knows him. It’s Breadstick with his phone light.
How the heck did you find us? I saw you enter the woods.
Why are you late? I had to run here.
Both are great answers. Breadstick, now known as Breadcrumb, was here to work.
We headed down a trail (I had zero idea where it was going). We stopped a few times at park benches. It was real dark. Path was muddy. Really bad idea…so we went slow. Slow enough for YHC to find a log. The new challenge is to carry this log back to the AO. We rotated it along way.
We found a basketball court in the woods. What? Yelp, we found a tennis court as well. Where are we? I don’t know.
Okay, let’s head back. We have 15 minutes to get there. Not a problem. We started back after we found a map. It’s straight. Let’s go.
A few hundred yards later there was a split in the path. Which way, this way. Ok.
Well.. that was the wrong way. Back track. Regroup. Head back.
Yelp, still lost but closer. Cool.
Breadcrumb pipes up – you know I have a phone right? Of course, let’s use it. GPS works in Eastway. Here’s our path. We’re headed back.
We are only 8 minutes late. Great job Q!
NMM
- Breadcrumb is new to this F3 thing. But he pulled himself out of bed after he had the perfect excuse to bail – his accountability partner for the morning bailed due to being sick. He was also his ride. But he pushed on and ran to the AO. Man I’m impressed.
- Q’s, it’s fun to shoot from the hip on your Q. But don’t get the pax lost. That’s just embarrassing.
- Evil Scout is one positive dude. He wasn’t fazed at being stuck with me for 45 minutes. He didn’t bitch and moan at me getting us lost in the middle of the woods (all batflippers would have).
Prayers
- Breadcrumb lost his grandmother to COVId. TAPs for him and his family.
- SABER Mates, as Breadcrumb calls them, for using the recovery programs and following God as they’re on their recovery journey.
Always great to have an opportunity to lead and meet new Pax. Thanks!
