The BackBlast:

Great job this morning gents. Thanks to all for your leadership over the years.  One thing I’d say in addition that has made the difference for me and the many men who have posted at our AO (The Valley – Not Black Widow – this needed to be up for the Metro boys to see – Hey Pitino how bout doing something Uncle never could – get the valley on on the metro site! I digress.) this is what I’m talking about: consistency.  Just showing up.  It’s not glamorous.  Sometimes it was just 2 of us, but we were there week in and week out.  There were stretches of time when it was just a Shield-lock of men (covid shutdown for example) and there may be others still to come, but we’ll be there because that’s what we do.  We show up.  We are consistent. Even when we don’t want to be.  Even when there’s a “good” excuse.  I had one in my head this morning that I had to overcome.  But it was Thursday.  Thanks for being that consistency for me through these 6 years.  Thursday morning at the Valley happens. It just does. Because you men are consistent.

Wojo (he was there 6 years ago when we planted the flag) took us round and round this morning for a lot of 6’s.

We did a warm up

We also did a Thang (a lot of them)

  • the Thang consisted of many thangs that ended in the number 6 included multiple 6 minute runs (at what seemed like a 6 minute pace thanks to Funny Farm being on a mission to stay in front of everyone, including Chalet and Tardy – not an easy feat).
  • I (Sloppy) did beat Tardy in one of the many sprints – Just saying – He said it was because he got off to a slow start – I’m not sure I remember it that way. I Just remember thinking, there is no way Tardy is not going to pass me any second now, but he didn’t.  Chalet was way out front of course. And I was way back behind Tardy every other second of that workout.  Thanks for the push and pull my brother!

Moral of the story, just show up and then you too will have a story to tell.  Lots of them. Why, because you were there to see it all go down.  Many thanks to GOP, Funny Farm, Becky, and Sable and the men who consistently show up and step up at The Valley each week.  I can count on you.  That’s not something I can say about a lot things.

– Sloppy
