Honor through labor

The BackBlast:

I learned a lesson in the summer of 1986 that I will never forget. I was selling books door to door in Stillwater Oklahoma for the Southwestern company. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done for sure. And yet, I was good at it ( I sold a cookbook to Hank Iba–if you are a basketball fan you know who that is). Even if you are good at something you are susceptible to the whims and winds that can lead you astray. The danger of selling books door to door far from home was losing focus half way through the summer. And so we were encouraged to not have a middle–have a strong start and a smart finish and the middle will take car of itself.
So it is engrained in me to have a good finish. And luckily I was signed up to Q for the last CORE workout of the year.

Like all good ends, we began with the Standard. Because nothing is more standard than a…well… a standard.

After that we moseyed to the bottom of the target stairs and did BLIMPS . But in total silence. No music, no chit chat, just work and silence.

Finishing this we went to the Troll Bridge and grabbed rocks which we carried to the metropolitan center. YHC had left chalk back at the bridge. We took turns running back to the bridge after calling out an exercise and writing 1 word that you would like to be remembered by.

After we had each done this, we replace our rocks and went to the top of the deck where we did 5 minutes of Mary while being enthused and excited watching the sun rise reflected off of the uptown buildings.

And so we ended 2021 by honoring those whom will no longer be with us in 2022. We honored them with silence in our work, with words while we worked, and then with expectation while we worked.

We worked, and it was a good thing.
