Soccer Champs

The small pax of Indy warmed up with a light run to Eastover Elementary for the 2nd annual soccer championship between Indy and Cherokee!! The chatter was big and bold this chilly Saturday morning.  Expectations were through the roof after last year’s domination of Cherokee (Indy won all games 3-1, 3-0 and 3-2).  Cherokee wanted revenge.  As the Indy pax arrived, Cherokee brought in in some numbers… 10 Cherokee vs. 5 Indy.   Cherokee was chirping away with this rule and that rule…blah blah blah.

Hyannis joined Indy pax for the duration to even the playing field – 9 Cherokee vs. 6 Indy.  It was evenly played match through the first 20 minutes.  Cherokee had a hand ball in their box.  Chappy with the penalty kick  – GOAL.  Indy up 1-0.  As the game progressed, the slick icy turf played into Cherokees hands as Cannoli snuck one by our goalie – Oswald.  Knotted at 1-1 and the clock ticking away, Chappy was able to tickle the twine from an miraculous shot from the goal line.  Cherokee kept saying “this is the final play or just 1 more”.  During the last corner kick (for the 5th time) Oswald grabbed the ball putting an end to the game. Thank you to HE for cheering us on (or making fun of us).

As Indy ran home, we heard Queen’s – We Are The Champions blaring through an iPhone.
