The BackBlast:
YHC took the reigns for MIP, which remains one of the most high-energy, exciting, and fun beatdowns in Metro. For one, it’s routinely over 30 people, and COVID is keeping the Rescue Mission PAX inside for much of the week, so they come outside eager to be around people and push themselves to get better.
After a great Evil Scout-led Q Source, we started with a typical warm up. SSH, IW, pickers, plank, etc. Because of the huge turnout, we split the group into two. Valdez came ready to be co-Q so he took half down to the rock pile, over to Fraizer Park, and back up the big hill. I didn’t get the whole recap, but from what I hear, it was a suck-tastic (sp?) beatdown. T-claps to Valdez for his continued site Q leadership.
YHC took the other half to the Panthers tunnel for some wall exercises, then mosey to Romare Bearden park for some modified 7s of burpess and squats. That park is bigger than I remembered, so it ended up being a good cardio workout too. We high-tailed it out of the park once we saw them setting up for a wedding. I highly doubt they wanted a bunch of sweaty dudes photobombing their special day.
From there, we went to Trade and Tryon (a first for MIP…or at least the first I’ve heard of MIP venturing that far out.) YHC had Old Bay (shoutout to the 410) lead two exercises and then have him teach Windex. Both men improved a ton and it’s clear that Rebound has some leaders just waiting to be unleashed!
Mosey back to Romare Bearden for some dips and then hustled back to the start. Finished off with some Landrys (50 curb dips) and 5 burpees.
COT took quite a while (35 is a ton of men, y’all) and we christened 4 FNGs – River Hawks, Bulldog, Smoked Ham, and Musk. Energy stayed high and a bunch of guys stayed after for some coffee and deep conversation. MIP continues to rise and it’s an absolute joy being a part of it…..until next Saturday when Vega has the Q. Oh no.
