The BackBlast:
ALS is the great melting pot of men of all ages and it has developed a great reputation for a grand place to celebrate birthdays. Tuesday was my turn to birthday Q my way into my 66th year. Money, the ageless wonder, reminded me that I had started showing up at ALS right after my 60th birthday so Tuesday was also a celebration of my 6th year of getting up at 4:45 to hang out with my F3 brothers.
And here is how it went down: Ten minutes of warm up at the upper Selwyn Parking lot was followed by partner exercises on the best asphalt in Core and a long mosey to the end of the Selwyn entrance drive. There are five lights up the drive. We did 12 merkins at each light and partnered up and one ran the AG drive while the other did three different exercises at the bottom of the hill. #crowdpleaser. Next we ran to the basketball court and did a round of merkins, derkins, dips, stair runs and donkey kicks. We moseyed to the front AG lot for the main event. The pax was broken into four groups and cycled between 5 pain stations which tested the pax mental and physical abilities. Each station had a question which involved the number 66. Example: what four consecutive numbers add up to 66? (come to ALS and ask me and I will give you the answer) If the group got the question right they did 6 of the exercise. If they got it wrong they did 12. This is where the smart kid in the pax rips the street cred away from the strong and in shape guys. 🙂 We finished up with some wall work and a little mary which featured a 66 degree protractor.
In typical Core fashion we finished with a birthday celebration featuring Charcoal’s daughter Briquette’s homemade cookies. She has a baking business so if you want some quality baked goods hit Charcoal up!
66 is a great age for me. I am in the second year of a phased retirement and the M and I will be celebrating the birth of our 5th grandchild this year. I feel great thanks to mornings like this and I feel extremely fortunate to have made it through contacting covid earlier in the year. I do not take mornings like this for granted especially knowing there are folks out there who are hurting and have many needs. I thank God that He has given me good health and the strength to give back to others during this phase of my life.
Thanks went out to all who helped with the barbeque sale that benefited Double Trouble’s children. We miss you DT. Your memory and your legacy lives on and drives us to be better men.
Aye,
Hallpass
Well said HP, Happy Birthday
